synthesizing     To transform is to use the many creative thinking tools at the same time to produce almost any kind of object, product or idea in any field. This is true for science, technology and art.

The video located on the Fresh Art from the Studio blog is a good example. It is a video done with origami to tell the story of how Asics shoes were developed.

Build your own task.

  1. Look and draw.
  2. Look at a person, place or thing, draw it. Then change it into something new!
  3. You may make it 2D  or 3-D. You may photograph or video it if it is fragile or too large.

Media: You choose.

When: Due the week of January 30th on your art day.

Where: Art Studio at your art time

Please always bring your art journal to art class!

This week ALL journal assignments from #8-#18 need to be handed in.

Art grades are due  on your art day beginning Monday, January 31!

Playing

is doing something because it is fun and you enjoy it. There is no success or failure involved.

It is important to play!  It can improve thinking skills by practicing. Role playing helps you to improve your skills of modeling, making analogies,, play acting & being empathetic. Game playing teaches you how to make rules that define how you behave & think…and also how to break them creatively to discover something new!

Build your own!

1.Draw something

that is fun for you!  / or

2. Make up a game.

Explain the rules of

the game. / or

3. Design a toy!

Due: on your art day in the week of January 23rd.

Modeling is…to make things smaller, life-sized or bigger, physical or mathematical, realistic or abstract. It is used to explain something that is difficult to experience easily.

It is important to model …in every discipline.  Modeling teaches imaginative skills and insists on careful, intense observation. It is important to initially shape material with your own hands.

Build your own!

Observe  and…

1.Draw something

that is 3 dimensional or

2.Make a sculpture

from paper, clay or

other material

then draw it or take

a photo of it. It must

be in your journal to

get credit for the

assignment!

Due: on your art day week of January 16, 2012. No loose pages !

Please create your work ON your journal page  correct #(16)

Please bring your journal to art class on  every art day.

We see a lot of reflected light at this time of year because it is dark so much more . We see reflections in puddles of water, on the snow, in windows, from the light of our windows, from candles. i think you can think of a lot of others if you just begin to  observe and  recognize patterns. Some of the reflections may be abstract, like the shapes thrown by crystals or chandeliers.

Build your own!

Observe  and…

1.Draw how light is reflecting on a darker surface.

or

2.Find reflections that are patterns.

or

3. Find reflections that are images.

Due: on your art day week of January 9, 2012.

Dimensional thinking means understanding that you can describe an idea or image from

3-D to 2-D ( as above) by mapping or transforming it; by changing the scale or proportion of things or by having the idea  that there may be space & dimension that extends beyond what we know.

It is important to think dimensionally like artists, engineers, architects, and scientists do!

Build your own!

Observe  and…

1.Draw something

that is 3 dimensional.

2.Make a 3-D object and draw or photograph it!

3. Describe an idea by mapping it. For example, make a map for directions ; for understanding a problem better, like the map above.
